The company has invited analysts and journalists to an event it is billing as an opportunity to hear from "the new leadership ... about the plans, directions and goals for the division." In addition to mapping out Internet strategy, the day also will serve as a coming-out party for Microsoft's new Internet chief, Rick Belluzzo, group vice president for the Consumer and Commerce Group for less than one month.
...
While Microsoft has been mum on specifics, some things seem clear. Its recent announcements suggest it plans to focus much of its online efforts on core services, such as e-mail and word processing.
...
In addition, sources said Microsoft will unveil technology to make online communications more seamless. The company will demonstrate software that blurs the lines between sending and receiving e-mail, instant messages and even video and audio messages.

Microsoft is expected also to announce deals relating to some of its online media business, such as the Expedia travel service. Recently, Microsoft sold a piece of its arts and entertainment guide to Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch and created a joint venture with Ford to use its CarPoint technology to sell "built-to-order" cars online
...
Sources say Microsoft will detail the development of a wireless Web portal that lets users check e-mail, monitor stock prices and even read headlines on the screen of their phones.
