Is this post all speculation
Yes, speculation, but I think it likely. The scientist who is brave enough to come up with a fungus or algae from synthetic chemicals will gain much notoriety, and so I think someone will want their picture in the paper. The tools are being developed to aid in new crop and medicine production through gene spicing.

Einstein is one of my favorite heros (along with Ben Franklin). I don't understand the super-string theory which is basis for the "Grand Unified Theory of Everything". I get about 3 fourths of it and then it seems to get very vague and the math is more than I can bear. From what I do understand I think that Einstein was closer to correct than the Quantum theorists. The Quantum theory calls for sub-atomic particles to be exchanged with the result being one of the forces of nature. It works well for electo-magnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forces, but doesn't work well for gravity. Einstein maintained that gravity was a result of the shape of the universe and is not in itself a force (therfore no particles).

The field of biology has really changed. Once it was just collecting bugs and thinking up clever names for them. Now the entire map for human DNA is projected to be known in the next two years.

As a rule of thumb, a breakthrough technology results in a complete shift in society after about 50 years (It's a rough rule of thumb since we only have 2 or 3 hundred years of applied science to get the pattern from). Sometimes I try to think what will be in 50 years, with good medicine I might be around to check. There's likely to a whole array of new foods, and spectacular designer flowers. There's also possiblity of poisons designed to kill only members of a single family. One thing for sure, we're going to have an interesting next millenium.

they eventually found a compromise for einstien's quantum machanics theory, the schrodinger's equation. they used that to prove matter could be in two states as once.
