How long have they been trying to sell the plane? Isn't it over 3 years?

The problem is that there is no standardization between the 717 and other 7 series aircraft. Why should an airliner commit to an aircraft that is not interchangeable between their ground crews, pilots, maintenance personnel, etc. especially when the 737 more or less meets the most stringent requirements for short haul routes?

This is why the 717 only has appealed so far to carriers that primarily have MDC aircraft in service.
