there should always(under most circumstances<g>) be the opportunity to have posts deleted.

A good example. A few months ago, I erronously posted an article on a thread I thought appropriate. Later in the day, I realized it was a completely different thread I wanted to post it on.

It looked like spam too.

graciousely, that post was deleted before anyone responded to it, so it disappeared and bumped one down on the grubbers.
