Jan:

The reports may be but I watched a half hour show on tv within the last 4 to 6 weeks. I'll look on the net over the weekend but can't promise I'll find anything. Its always better to see the actual than rely on my memory.

I'm not sure if it was consumer reports or an insurance safety institue. They test was the 40 mph just off front center (reason being this is the most frequent crash where a driver is taking a curve and crosses the center line. Had the crash dummies all wired up to record the trauma injuries.

There is an insurance safety organization that publishes extensive crash test data on the net. the url for mid-size suvs is:
hwysafety.org

when i was car shopping, i actually called them to get an interpretation of their "bumper" data. (cars that do poorly don't necessarily have unsafe bumpers, just expensive ones to fix!)
if you visit the site, check out the "films" segment, where you can actually watch dummies crashing cars into unforgiving walls. kids, don't try this at home...

Re Land Rovers---

they're not for tight skirts, or even not so tight ones.<g>

One of my partners has one. It's a real trick to enter.Haven't ridden in any other SUV's of late, so I'm little help in any other areas.
