Amazon.com to buy stake in online gift registry
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept 23 (Reuters) - The online gift
registry Della and James Thursday will announce an affiliation
with Amazon.com <AMZN.O>, which is buying a 20 percent stake in
the company and forming a strategic relationship to offer gift
registry services to its customers.
Della and James, which was launched as an online bridal
registry over the summer, is also relaunching itself as an
all-occasion gift registry where anyone will be able to post
gift "wish lists."
Della and James Chief Executive Rebecca Patton said the
company had not yet worked out all the details of its
all-occasion registry, but said the company saw significant
potential in setting up a site where expectant mothers,
children and other individuals could list their gift
preferences.
"We believe this is going to be huge," she said. "How
wonderful it will be to be able to post our wish lists on the
Internet."
Della and James' affiliation with Amazon is part of a $45
million financing package from four of its retail partners,
including Neiman Marcus, Williams Sonoma and Crate and Barrel.
The company said most of the new funding came from Amazon,
although it did not specify the dollar amount of its
investment.
