On Broadband. . . . In the major market areas, broadbands will duke it out for market share. . .xDSL, wireless, fibre optic cable, cellular, satellite, pony express, can and string, etc. Suburbia and the rest of the nation is a different subject, however.

I truly believe the set-top box will become the preferred method of internet access. . . and that the "old" videotext internet will fall away, giving room to the "Next-Generation Internet" [NGI], also known as I2. . . .where full motion video is the standard. . .not text.

And as a result of this shift, I believe the DSLs and perhaps some of the other modes of transmissions will bog down, when full screen full motion video with digital CD quality surround sound audio is pumped through them . . . in fact, I don't believe that the technology will support it. . .whereas fibre-optics will have no problem. . . and companies like ADAP, HLIT, ANTC, etc. are there with the equipment to make those speeds possible.

Remember that as the bandwidth grows. . .so does the content density and requirements. . .if we stayed with text. . .all of the current last mile technologies would suffice. . .but we are already looking for more than mere text. . .

Our NEED for bandwidth will quickly exceed our network capability. . making technologies that SEEM fast now. . .into turtles BEFORE they even get started. This is why I have never been hot on xDSL. . .but am very hot on fibre-optics related broadband technology.

Frankly, I will love reading my email via cellular and surfing via wireless notebook computers, while sitting in an airport terminal. . . but when I want the full-bore full-color full-impact Next Generation Internet. . . I'll be "sofa-surfing" my set-top appliance by way of fibre optics.
