Xybernaut(R) Signs Sales Agreement with Hammacher Schlemmer
Landmark Catalog/Retailer to Feature the Mobile Assistant(R) IV Wearable Computer
FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Xybernaut Corporation (Nasdaq: XYBR - news), the leader in wearable computing, announced today that it has finalized an agreement with Hammacher Schlemmer & Co., for the sale and marketing of Xybernaut's Mobile Assistant IV (MA IV(TM)) wearable computer. Hammacher will feature the MA IV in the November issue of its 1999 Holiday Catalog. The MA IV will also be featured in all three of Hammacher's retail stores -- New York, Beverly Hills and Chicago -- and will be prominently featured in their window displays.
Edward G. Newman, president and CEO of Xybernaut Corporation, stated, ''In addition to our current business-to-business customers, the MA IV also appeals to consumers who are early adopters of technology, and this is precisely who Hammacher targets. Hammacher Schlemmer is a 'world-renowned' retailer/cataloger and placement in it's catalog gives Xybernaut the opportunity to reach millions of Hammacher's customers. This is an important milestone in Xybernaut's drive to make its products generally available at the consumer level.''
Stated Bill Booth, president of Hammacher Schlemmer & Co., ''The MA IV fits perfectly with Hammacher's philosophy of offering our customers 'the best, the only, and the unexpected.' Established in 1848, the company has served as more than just a retailer of fine products -- it has served as a window to the future: the pop-up toaster, the portable radio, the electric razor, the microwave oven, even the first U.S. flat panel television -- all were first introduced by Hammacher Schlemmer, long before the average consumer conceived of these eventual daily necessities. Xybernaut's wearable computer is the natural evolution to our visionary product offering.''
Xybernaut's wearable computer, the Mobile Assistant IV (MA IV) is being shipped worldwide. This full-function productivity tool features all the benefits of a powerful WINTEL, Pentium PC, with complete wireless communication capabilities. Hammacher Schlemmer will offer it packaged as a belt- or vest-worn computer, with up to 128 MB of SDRAM, a 4.3 GB hard drive, two PC card slots, a color VGA head-mounted display with microphone and earphone, a miniature keyboard, a battery pack, and integrated voice-recognition software.
