jlallen, In my particular case, I was 21 years old, had no working skills because I married right after high school, and had 2 young children. These men brainwash you into believing that you will never survive without them. "Where do you think you're going to go with 2 kids?" "Who's going to hire you?", etc. And in those days, they didn't have shelters for abused women. The police would not arrest a man for beating you if he was your husband. If he was just a boyfriend, he'd be behind bars. So, I glad to see that this situation has changed in the past 25 years. Colleen
