Excerpt from NY Times

More than 20 Muslim cadets from the Middle East resigned from
the State University of New York's Maritime College in the
Bronx on Tuesday, saying they had been subjected to demeaning
treatment and, in two cases, physical attack by other cadets.

"They treat Arabic people like animals," Mohamed Al-Marri, 22, who is
from Qatar, said of the indoctrination duty officers, who are in charge of
the cadets.
"They had problems with Arabic people. They don't like our religion."

Admiral Brown said he also thought that several of the students were
using the charges of persecution as an excuse to absolve them of their
financial obligation to the United Arab Shipping Company, which began
sponsoring the students about a year ago.
