NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- EarthLink and Mindspring jointly announced a merger Thursday which would create an entity with a combined base of over 3 million members. EarthLink shares (ELNK: news, msgs) jumped 3 1/8 to 46 5/8 while Mindspring's (MSPG: news, msgs) fell 2 5/8 to 30 1/4 over the Island ECN. The newly formed company will be named EarthLink and have a market capitalization of over $3 billion, based on Wednesday's closing prices.
