Have you visited the region? You seem to be familiar with E.Timor.... how would you say the human rights compare to Jakarta or other densely populated areas on the region?

I ask because I was in Africa a few years ago and there was clearly some massive human rights violations going on in Rwanda... meanwhile tourists were still visiting which is another story in itself... but amidst the turmoil it was pretty clear that many of the citizens had somehow lost respect for human life... this from observers in Kenya. Of course within a year the entire region erupted.

The Kenya people were afraid that the violence was going to spread and as such were in the process of completely closing the borders. I guess with the islands those decisions are easier to make and enforce... but imagine closing your borders to desperate people like that...
