Gilder points out that SUN plans to market StarOffice, a suite of network-ready Office applications, taking advantage of Java. StarOffice is apparently compatible with MS Office file formats. By offering this (for free) via AOL CD marketing and over the net, and with automatic updates with which the end user doesn't have to fuss with, this will ideally reduce IT maintenance time, and be bug-free. According to Gilder, "this is it folks, the Java consummation that many of us have been waiting for. Microsoft will never be the same again". Full disclaimer...I have no position in MSFT Apollo
