You know, a while back on Feelings, there were some rather derogatory comments about psychology majors being unstable and picking the field to solve their own problems. Your post reminded me that while I was very stable when I started the major, about the time we got to Abnormal, I was developing every neurosis in the book, literally. We all were -stricken simultaneously as we exited the class with the disease du jour. We were miraculously cured chapter to chapter, and our professor assured us this was normal. But we all became terrible company, which is probably why psych. people are not highly regarded by other majors, being prone to condescending comments like,"Don't you think you're overcompensating a wee bit?" or "That behavior really indicates you may be suffering a severe psychotic episode, and probably should be medicated."

This condition, however, allows one to emerge with a deeper understanding of mental illness, having suffered briefly every single one.
