DCF- More on Jesus... "I suspect He was of the same stock as the Jewish nation was at the time. What do you think?" I think he probably looked more like a person that was representative of that area. I think this would mean darker than white skin, kinky hair and more Semitic facial features. Then again, maybe he had recessive genes, but seems highly unlikely. "In just that misrepresentation of appearance, how could that,in your mind, cause facts to be ignored?" In my mind I was only referring to facts about physical appearance. I did not mean to include any facts regarding Jesus' teachings and philosophy in this statement. However, if the translation over the centuries of Jesus' physical appearance was altered, does this mean translation of other aspects of Jesus' were altered too? His ideas and philosophy have been translated through many layers. I do not question the holiness or goodness of his teachings. I just wonder about the accuracy of history, and how to determine its accuracy. For example, verbal histories, as I understand it, are known for transformations into mythology and legends that form a kind of defense mechanism for peoples and communities to survive, to give meaning to their collective soul. I wonder how much of Jesus was passed by verbal history. And of the written history, how many translations it underwent. Did Moses part the Red Sea? That story to me is a legend, like Paul Bunyan. I don't doubt that Moses existed, or that he is one of the patriarchs of the Jews, or that he led them out of Egypt. But the fantasy aspect is very intriguing to me. And exploring that part, these fantastic, altered perceptions of history, can provide a lot of insight into the dynamics of history, myth, legend and religion and how men use them to make sense of meaning, mortality and an unforgiving, beautiful and unpredictable world. Jesus was raised in a carpenters house, and I fully believe that he worked as a carpenter for a number of years. You know many men that work with wood all day that have nice soft hands? Or smooth faces? The ones in my family had course hands, smashed fingers, knots on the head from getting banged by a 4X4 post...etc etc. Hey, that's what hard hats are for. :-) I wouldn't disagree with this too much, but if Jesus was perfect - would that mean he never smashed a finger or bumped his head? Guess he'd still get calluses though.
