Microsoft President Steve Ballmer remarked that he thought the technology sector was overvalued, along with the price of his company's stock. "There's such an overvaluation of tech stocks it's absurd," he told a conference of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. Referring to the speculative sentiment that's pushed tech stocks higher, he said: "In a way, it's a bad thing for the long-term health of the economy." Microsoft (MSFT: news, msgs) shares decayed 4 15/16 to 91 1/8.

Since when does the market move by what MSFT thinks? This is so ludicrous. A sell off caused by MSFT?

Yep, all green. Closed all the shorts, dump was to broad and fast to stick. I expected a slower bloodletting, so I took my money, and bought some of the indexes back long. A dcb seems logical.

Brother. . .I run out to an appointment for an hour and the whole market falls to pieces. . . when I left ADAP and LQID were both up over 3 bucks. . . I come back and they are still positive [holding up the whole port] . . but ETYS came crashing down.. . more than 7 points? I guess it was because I wasn't here to buy more at the low.

I am still up on the day and the week. . .but I was up nearly 1.5% more earlier in the day. Harbinger held its gains nicely. . . as did PRFM. . . Could have had HLTH a bit lower. . .

Is this all because someone at MSFT wanted cheap shares and claimed the high techs to be overpriced? Or in fear of the dreaded Fed meeting. . .where I believe NO CHANGE will take place. . .could this be fear of "the fear of Y2K?" Or the much ballyhoo'd October sell-off?

No. . .certainly not. . .traders are not that gullable anymore. . .

. . . . are they?

Thanks to my COMS (selling at 29 1/2) the weeks even for me. Now looking at bargains including getting COMS back more than three bucks cheaper. Might take a few tax losses and switch into stocks I like better. But seems the October crash is coming early this year, probably because everyone was hoping to avoid it.
