RTev- Warren Buffet is the CEO... Hi RTev, I stand corrected. Warren Buffet is the CEO of Berkshire-Hathaway. However, he has also cultivated an image of an investor rather than a CEO, so the comparison is weak. Ballmer is not known by the public as an investor. "...say something that is detrimental in the short term to the company's stock price, but which increases the company's long-term prospects or financial health...." Weak reasoning. Why would a company ever SAY anything that is detrimental to the stock price or the company? Companines DO things that are detrimental to the stock price, and hopefully they don't do them intentionally or recklessly. Please cite some examples where a corporation undertakes this self-destructive corporate strategy you imagine. Like what?... He is said this to bring the stock price down so Microsoft can buy back more shares? (I am not sure if they have an active stock buyback program.) Now, THAT would be absurd. And please don't cite something like getting rid of a top officer or undergoing restructuring or taking a write off. Those don't compare to the actions of Ballmer today. The other interesting tidbit in this mess is Ballmers referral to anything that is false is bad. Why does he even look down that road? Ever see those parking space signs that say- "Don't even think of parking here!". That is what this reminds me of. How could anyone believe with confidence what the top brass of a company that is in under trial for monopolization says in regards to truth and false. And, it also makes me wonder why he said that... as if he has said things in the past that were false? Or, maybe he is so paranoid of the DOJ mess that he wants to verbally equate Microsoft with everyone else in the market so Microsoft is not accused of wielding their power abusively. So, he preemptively says that Microsoft is overvalued, in all fairness, and he then makes a statement referring to the truth which the DOJ and many others doubt and refute. Another thing- how about media savvy? Anyone with some media savvy would not have said this. And Ballmer has been around long enough to have this stuff wired. Which makes it doubly interesting he would have said something a media neophyte would say. That is all of my theories... for now. Just my opinion. Jon :)
