Ballmer was just a sideshow.
The main trigger was US Treas.Sec. Summers telling
the world that Japan was on its own in stimulating
its domestic economy and should use all available tools.
This is a backhanded slap at the BOJs decision not
to inject additional yen into the Japan banking system.
The speech was interpreted to mean Japan will get little
intervention assistance from other G7 countries.
Currencies got bid immediately and it spilled
over into stocks.
