PRW: Radiology Information Systems Introduces $22,250 DICOM 3.0 Teleradiology Solution
Howtek MultiRAD(TM) Digitizer Included Breakthrough Modular System for On-call Radiology, Centralized Readings and Consultation
HUDSON, N.H., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Radiology Information Systems, Inc. (RIS) of Chantilly, Virginia and Howtek, Inc. (Nasdaq: HOWT) today announced the introduction of a complete DICOM 3.0 teleradiology capture workstation, including a Howtek MultiRAD 450 film digitizer, for $22,250, or $540 per month. The system, offered and supported directly by RIS, includes RSVS capture, receive and view software, including compression, high-speed host computer with 15" color monitor, and the Howtek MultiRAD 450 digitizer with advanced "Red LED" illumination. A modular review station is also available for $5,350, including RSVS review software with decompression, host computer and a 17" color monitor. The RIS DICOM 3.0 solution is a modular and extensible system, compatible with other DICOM 3.0 teleradiology and PACS systems. It can serve as a stand-alone solution for on-call teleradiology, centralized readings and consultation or as a building block in more extensive systems. Sales Information is available from RIS at (877) - SCANRIS (877-722- 6747). Dr. Chen-Tai Ma, President of RIS, noted some of the benefits of the RIS DICOM 3.0 modular approach; "We are offering an entry level solution for less than the cost of some office copying machines, which meets the needs of many physicians and practices. At the same time, the RIS system provides users with an industry standard open architecture and DICOM 3.0 compliance, making the system open-ended and extensible." Components of the RSVS software system include DICOM-standard film image capture, video image capture, image review, patient folder management, off- line CD image archive management, image wavelet compression and hard copy image print solutions, all based on RIS' DICOM information server and DICOM image gateway capabilities. Howtek MultiRAD digitizers, with patent-pending red-light illumination, are designed to offer high quality imaging in a reliable, small-footprint design, at a comparatively low cost. Howtek's MultiRAD 450 digitizer, with 4K resolution and a 50-film batch feeder, is designed for teleradiology and PACS applications. Dr. Ma noted, "The MultiRAD's self-calibration feature and ability to capture and resolve detail in darker film areas is, in our view, far superior to older, fluorescent-lamp digitizing technologies." Radiology Information Systems offers health care providers a wide range of advanced diagnostic imaging and information sharing solutions supporting improved diagnoses and health care options and increased productivity. Howtek designs, engineers, and manufactures digital image scanners, film digitizers and related software for applications in the graphic arts, photographic and medical imaging markets.
