I disagree with Ballmer's statement, which is of a markedly different vein than Linus'.
Linus, of course, is right. But he is clearly hedging his statement by saying it's a matter of time. Time could be...oh...15 years. Could be never, too.
Ballmer is calling for a crash now. Looks like he precipitated a mini-one yesterday.
This is, without question, his method of manipulating the market to MSFT's advantage. A very good friend of mine who runs a large i-company said as much to me yesterday.
Are prices too high? Maybe. But it isn't the President of MSFT's job to say so...he's supposed to maximize shareholder value. By making statements like that, he's not doing that UNLESS it's to enable MSFT to buy some companies on the cheap.
