We will surely hear from the Battipaglias, Cohens, and others tomorrow reassuring investors that this is a salutory drawback before the next upswing, that the economy is fine, inflation almost inexistant, etc. etc. This is only natural. These peoples jobs depend on the market heading higher. People will keep their stocks and watch the prices head lower without panicking. Last year Greenspan killed the people short the market - these people will not be there to cushion the fall this time.
