"Selling puts is a typical strategy on the part of a corporation to issues options to its management/employees and then buy back the stock from the open market to neutralize the effect and keep the total number of shares somewhat even."

Agree. I was just trying to get some comments on why the president of a listed company will proclaim that the shares of his company are grossly overvalued.. I guess MSFT shareholders will tell Mr Ballmer what they think about that. I'm not a lawyer but there could be lawsuits here.

Corporate executives in general refrain from making comments about the markets. They concentrate on the fundamentals of their companies and issue guidance about earnings etc.

Assuming that Ballmer is not a moron one must conclude that there is an ulterior motive behind his comments. To make such a proclamation in a manner that it could favor the option strategies of his company is so crude that one could rule this out also. Is he trying to kill some of his competitors by taking *oxigen* out of them (paraphrasing what MSFT did to NSCP)? I mean if everything goes down.. MSFT will still be higher than everyone else kind of thing..?

At any rate Mr Ballmer surely got me confused today.
