Regarding SDMI...

The .mp3 enabled devices are going to go forward at the pace of consumer demand. If I recall correctly the first phase of the SDMI made allowances for relatively little security features. I may have to go back and read that information from a few months back.

I have a Pontis MMC based player which is limited currently by the low capacity of MMC. It plays strictly .mp3 files.

My Cassiopeia E-100 plays both .wma and .mp3 files with additional software which can be easily downloaded from the internet. As I stated before, .mp3 is the de facto standard supported by a groundswell of grassroots support. Anything which encumbers the process will be rejected by the consumer.

As many on this thread have said earlier, SanDisk will be "selling the bullets" in this war (or was it "picks and shovels" in this gold rush). IMHO, it doesn't matter what format is eventually embraced.
