The Greenberg column on AMZN was guest-written by a (pretty good) hedge fund manager, Jeff Matthews. I remember I didn't think much of it either.

I actually like Herb Greenberg a lot, though I think he should stick to his strength, which is highlighting the ways execs at failing companies tapdance to conceal deteriorating fundamentals.

His Chronicle column blowing the whistle on 3COM a few years ago saved me a lot of money, so I guess I am kind of biased here.

But the Greenberg piece on Amazon's last qtr about 3 weeks ago was the finale. Way too little, too late and in some
ways off the mark. Of course if people knew Greenberg was the "personal finance" editor for the SF Comical maybe
they wouldn't pay so much attention... a personal finance editor being not the same thing as a stock picker or fund
mgr...


I had no clue he was the personal finance editor.
