Croc, I was up in the Gats this morning from 7:30 to 9:30 and it was a fantastic fall day. Although it was a little cool at ~50 F and a 15 km/h wind; I enjoy seeing the red sparking maple leaves falling from the grand forest in the Gatineau Hills. Yes, I was cycling again in the great Outdoors in Quebec just 25 minutes by bike from my home!
Today was a special time, since I saw and cycled by ~ 50 road skiers. They were practicing for cross-country skiing. They use long poles to push out and especially up the steep hills. They use skating boots that look like small downhill skiing boots and mount them on a 30" board that is approx. 3" across and 1 " thick floating on four wheels; two front and two back. It is certainly a real family activity and one to get everyone to the great outdoors. The link below shows some of the Gats. The park closes the roads off between 6 am to 12 noon. It looks like a cool sport, but I would take it easy coming down Fortune hill :-)

Let us know how your hike went today in the Northern Gats.

Cheers,

David
