I have never seen a high ranking official of a company making a statement like that. Especially since he also included MSFT in the same boat. I dont know why he said what he did and whether it is appropriate, ethical or not. But, it is unusual. I think a lot of shareholders are going to be inflamed by this. Frequently, CEOs and Presidents of companies take pot shots at competitors. But why, pray why would someone speak that way about their own company? After all, it is the market that determines the worth of a company. Is that mechanism of price determinination perfect? No. It is driven by human emotions of greed, fear and the herd mentality. But, in the long run, an equilibrium is reached. Companies and management have every right to talk about their performance past and future. They also can talk about the competition. But this was really strange.
