RUSSIA CERTAINLY HASN'T INCREASED PRODUCTION TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPEC Russian eight-month oil output marginally down on last year, gas slightly up Source: BBC Monitoring Former Soviet Union - Economic Text of report in English by Russian news agency Interfax Moscow, 22nd September: Russia produced about 195.5m tonnes of oil (excluding gas condensate) in the first eight months of the year, 0.1 per cent less than in the same period last year, the Russian Statistics Agency told Interfax. Natural gas production rose 0.6 per cent year on year to over 370.79bn cubic metres. Oil production in August totalled 25.2m tonnes, 1.5 per cent more than a year earlier. Primary refining totalled 15.1m tonnes, 8.2 per cent more. BUT THEY HAVE INCREASED EXPORTS TO RAISE CASH Russia steps up crude oil exports in January-July Source: BBC Monitoring Former Soviet Union - Economic Text of report in English by Russian news agency ITAR-TASS Moscow, 22nd September: Russia's exports of crude oil reached 80.8m tonnes in January-July, according to reports of the State Customs Committee and Russian Statistics Agency. This is 2.3 per cent up on 1998. The export revenues totalled 6.3bn US dollars, or 0.2 per cent, the agencies said. In July, the country delivered to world markets 10.9m tonnes of oil and raised 1.1bn US dollars. Exports to CIS market increased by 12 per cent and totalled 12.2m tonnes, as a result of which 0.6bn dollars have been raised. Experts mark a dramatic decrease in the average contract price on these markets compared with the previous year and other foreign markets. Crude oil exports to the non-CIS world markets reached 68.6m tonnes (5.7bn dollars), 7.3 per cent higher year on year. Crude oil accounted for 16.8 per cent of Russia's exports in January-July 1999, against 15 per cent in 1998. WHICH HAS CAUSED THEM SERIOUS PROBLEMS Russian fuel oil export ban extended Source: BBC Monitoring Former Soviet Union - Economic Text of report in English by Russian news agency Interfax Moscow, 22nd September: Russian exports of fuel oil will not be resumed before 1st October, Fuel and Energy Ministry spokesman Oleg Smirnov told Interfax. Smirnov said that telegrams were sent out to oil companies on Wednesday {22nd September} to notify them of this. Exports of fuel oil were earlier suspended until 20th September in order to increase reserves in Russia ahead of the winter. Russia exported 11.30m tonnes of fuel oil in the first half of this year, 45.8 per cent more than in the same period of 1998, according to Interfax sources.
