Cabletron and IBM Global Services Combine Forces to Launch Innovative,
Web-Based E-Commerce Solution

Business/Technology Editors

ROCHESTER, N.H. AND NEWBURY, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24,
1999--

New Web-Based Application Provides Fully Automated, Secure and
Cost-Effective Supply Chain Management Processes

Cabletron Systems (NYSE: CS) today announced a UK collaboration
with IBM Global Services to launch IBM's new web-based application,
designed to streamline an organization's procurement processes and
enhance its overall operating efficiencies.
Titled Forms Exchange, the new application, piloted by Cabletron
Systems, provides users with end-to-end processing and settlement of
orders and invoices online, ensuring an elimination of errors arising
from duplicate data entry and providing users with a system to
facilitate faster payment.
With the application ready for testing, IBM Global Services
approached Cabletron to be the pilot site for the solution across
Europe. "We needed a supplier of stature and good technical ability
that could test the application to the limits," said Pete Edwards,
IBM's EMEA procurement re-engineering manager.
"We were also keen to work with one who shared our e-business
vision. Cabletron is an enthusiastic advocate of the ability of
Internet technology to power robust, secure, mission-critical
applications, so it made sense for them to pilot Forms Exchange."
Working closely with IBM, Cabletron undertook a four-month pilot
project with the Form Exchange web application. Having produced an
immediate impact in their procurement efficiencies, Cabletron
implemented IBM's solution on a more permanent basis.
Henry Fiallo, Cabletron's CIO, explains, "With Forms Exchange we
have streamlined what used to be a cumbersome, manual, time and
paper-intensive process. This has resulted in more accurate processing
of orders and invoices, and faster settlement with less
administration."
Fiallo continued, "We were delighted to work with IBM on an
initiative that is set to revolutionize transaction processing for
businesses, both large and small. Showcasing a successful e-business
commercial application such as Forms Exchange shows that Cabletron
believes and trusts in the technology's capability."
Forms Exchange is available worldwide via IBM Global Services.

Y2K issues are just beginning to be priced into this market! The correction started about a month ago and should climax over the next month or so!

There are lots of jitters out there and it might be prudent to keep those six shooters in the holsters until you hear the first broker has jumped out of his Wall Street window after a blow off single day drop of 7% in the markets! The NAS was down close to 4% yesterday, but it is still up over 25% for the year...there's more to go!
