Most people seem to agree that the internet sector will be really pounded if the market continues down here. Oddly though it has been surprisingly strong recently, for reasons unknown to me. We shall have to see whether that strength will continue; it did show some signs of weakness yesterday.

As for leadership in the tech sector, concerns about chip and motherboard availability are likely to continue to adversely affect computer makers and related companies, which will filter down to the semi-equipment sector, so I don't see these rallying strongly here. For now it would appear that the strongest sector is likely to be software, including CRM and BI, which conveniently happens to be where I have been investing lately. A few overvalued companies suffered yesterday, but for the most part this group held up well, and many of them were actually up yesterday.

If the overall market continues sharply down, which I don't think it will, even this sector will be affected. It simply is not large enough to be a true leader, and is more of an island of safety sufficient for a mild storm. <G>

For now I think we stabilize here, but an October crash scenario is not out of the question. Note that I am not calling for a sharp rally, and we could see a flat period followed by a continuation down.
