hi carl,
this is the only si link i could find to the original ibm info.

Message 9835587

searching the yahoo thread i could not go back that far as you suggested.

searching the motley fool thread, i found the original article. i will post it below.

the article was released friday, may 28, at night. the same day intel announced timna. it was a holiday weekend. the following days, rmbs gapped down to around 70. then on june 4th, ibm confirmed the article was pure bull$%)#. approx 5 weeks later rmbs was at 115.

notice the striking similarity...we expect great news between today and monday. last night after everything closed, we get a similar article...the two company hq's are on the west coast. no one will be at work early enough to comment and issue a press release prior to the market opening today.

let's think about who lost. the longs who sold the gap down lost.
the shorts who entered after the gap down lost big too on the run-up.

it is inconceivable to me that dell, rmbs and intel have hidden a problem like this...it is certainly not in their interest hide anything.

finally, there are just too many people involved to keep something like this a secret. we certainly would have a better source than an unnamed analyst speaking to a reporter.

recently edelstone was reported to be in taiwan and the far east. he has visited and spoken with rdram mfrs and pc oems. he has issued numerous reports on his findings. his advice 2 days ago was buy any weakness..

let's see if opportunity knocks.

here is the article...notice the credits at the end.

IBM to drop Rambus from future PC plans
IBM has decided to drop Rambus DRAM from its upcoming PC plans in favor of PC 133 SDRAM, and will be disengaging itself from the Rambus technology along multiple fronts including commitments by IBM Microelectronics to produce the devices, EN has learned from sources close to the company. The IBM decision, which followed delays in chipset support from Intel Corp. for Rambus-based systems, deals a stunning blow to the already-cloudy future of Rambus' technology. Other PC OEMs that have been sitting on the fence may use the IBM move as justification for abandoning Rambus, at least for their next generation of desktops. Sources said the decision was driven by a comprehensive technical study that indicated Rambus offered no performance advantages over PC 133 SDRAMs, and the assessment that it was not a good business decision to source proprietary technologies. The move bolsters support for non-proprietary memory technology such as PC 133 SDRAM and double data rate DRAM. The decision could prompt Intel and other chipset makers to increase their support for industry standard synchronous memory solutions that are also favored by price-pressured DRAM suppliers because they do not have to pay royalties to Rambus on each device shipped. For a full report on IBM's decision including industry analysis and reaction, look in Monday's print edition of Electronic News as well as Electronic News on the web at www.electronicnews.com. top
