Samsung Electronics Forecasts Mobile Phone Exports at US$2B in 1999
September 24, 1999 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. forecast its mobile phone exports will reach US$2 billion in 1999 on rising orders from the United States, Southeast Asia and new CDMA markets in the Middle East and Latin America.

The company exported more than US$900 million in its mobile phone sector alone in the first half of the year and the July-August export figure has already posted US$350 million.

Since its first US$300-million supply order to U.S. Sprint Corp. in 1997, Samsung's mobile phones have shown a gradual increase to US$506 million in 1998 and US$1.25 billion last year.

Company officials said its brand image as a digital cellular phone company has quickly spread to the world after it developed a new brand "VOICER" for overseas customers.

Samsung Electronics plans to double the production of its Brazil plant to 600,000 units a year to maintain its upbeat sales. It also plans to multiply overseas plants around the world next year, seeking to boost its global rank to the fifth in the digital mobile phone sector.
