I agree that the third slot is the "big black hole" right now. I suspect Intel will quietly point out that all new disclosures are "old news" for reasons stated on the thread, and dismiss them as minor.

The timing of all of this is certainly interesting. Rambus is one stock where a little well placed noise can cause a five percent move. the timing is impeccable if you are attempting to establish a position, or move out of one. Who knows? It just seems a little "pre-destined" to me. But I am cynical by nature.

From the article, it would appear that the third slot cannot be allowed to exist, not just left unpopulated. In the worst case motherboards might have to be re-designed (or possibly re-worked) to delete the extra circuit traces to the third slot.
