Nathan,
I disagree. Qwest and Frontier's networks overlap a lot. In fact, they use the same cables in some cases, just different fibers. I think GBLX can pick better partners or eye better acquisition targets.

I think after years end when PEC Crossing and MAC Crossing come on line, we may see more merger activity.

Nathan,

Although there is some overlap between QWST's and FRO's network (I believe FRO bought all of its long-haul fibers from QWST) I actually agree with you that QWST and GBLX would make a great pair. However I believe there has been some bad blood between them during the row over USWest. At the meeting, Winnick complained about QWST's Nacchio "running off at the mouth" (or some such thing) talking down GBLX's business model.

So there are large egos at stake here and it's not clear that any of Nacchio, Annunziata, Winnick or Phil Anschutz (major owner of QWST) would want to be "taken over". I think the major stumbling block is who'd run the company. But if they could work that out it might be a great combo.

FWIW, this issue did not come up at the meeting.

Another interesting combo would be GBLX and EXDS. That way GBLX could gain even bigger pull in the webhosting market. But it may in the end be cheaper for them to spend the money building out FRO's webhosting sites rather than buying ...

I must say I do agree with the notion of an eventual GBLX/QWST merger, but later rather than sooner, especially as both companies have significant work ahead to digest their respective new partners.
