The historical mean data does not help. We have never had a period before when so many companies actually had such huge earnings and revenue increases year to year. MSFT has been "overvalued" by historical measures for about 10 years, CSCO for about 5 years. Dell for 10 years. When someone buys a stock they are buying the prospects of FUTURE earnings. If a company has been growing 25 to 100% per year it will command a "premium". As in everything else, statistically past performance is the best predictor of future performance.
