I don't know the strict Lib position, but I know mine.
I think we stay out of it. I don't see a "reason" to act in an official manner.
HOWEVER, I'm a member of the Nature Conservancy. Why, you might ask? Because, it's one of the few "tree-hugger" orgs that follows a market solution to environmental problems. I donate $$, they buy endangered land and manage it. Gives me the warm and fuzzies, and follows market guidelines all at the same time.
Orgs are already following the same path w/the rainforest - we just need more of it. HEY! I buy Ben and Jerry's TOO! They donate to the rainforest!

Lots of people say this is not a solution. I say it's the only viable solution. If we want it, we should pay for it. But we shouldn't make EVERYBODY pay for it, because maybe everybody doesn't care. And we have to respect that.

BTW, I was there 2 years ago....I was impressed with the forest and can see the damage - but I'm not "frightened" about it.
