Goutama,

<Intel shipped the finished versions of the Xeon 550 to OEMs on Aug. 23. Gruener said the problem may not hold Intel up to the most flattering light as large accounts begin to weigh eight-way servers containing the Xeon 550 with competing architectures.>

Ouch! This is a bad day for Intel. May be the so-called RAS experts will jump in with their spin.

<"It probably doesn't bode well for the perception that Intel is ready to challenge other architectures in the enterprise. What people have to remember about the Intel platform, though, is that this is no different than any other microprocessor arch in terms of having an errata," Gruener said. >

Couldn't agree more! May be some of the people bashing Athlon on these issues will start seeing the light of the day.

Chuck

P.S.: Wonder what the impact on Q3/Q4 is.

Goutama - RE: "Intel halts Xeon 550 shipments after flaw discovered"

My, my, my! Intel is on a roll today!

At least they caught it before it turned out to be a CamiNO-GO Fiasco. But it still doesn't bode well for this great company Intel.

Intel may have more problems this year than in the last few years combined.

I would not take a computer with an AMD processor for free let alone buy one. Take a look at the auction sites, virtually no body is bidding for then. They almost have to give them away to get rid of them. No wonder this company is at the brink of bankruptcy.
