100,000 Denver Area Consumers 'Go Digital'
Denver Couple Rewarded as AT&T Celebrates 100,000 Digital Cable Milestone
DENVER, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) Cable Services (formerly TCI of Colorado) technician Javier Sotelo today installed AT&T Digital Cable service for the 100,000th customer to "go digital" in the Denver metropolitan area. The milestone was reached when AT&T Cable Services customers Becky and Roger Russell received digital service at their home in Denver this morning. Digital cable service, pioneered by Denver-based AT&T Broadband & Internet Services, uses digital technology to provide customers with additional channels and exciting interactive features such as on-screen ordering and a parental control system.
"It is amazing to think that few of our customers had ever heard of Digital Cable less than a year ago, and now 100,000 of them are enjoying it in their homes," stated Joseph R. Stackhouse, Regional Vice President for AT&T's Metro Denver cable operations. "This impressive performance is a credit to our customer service staff and AT&T Digital Cable installation technicians, who have gone above and beyond to keep up with the high customer demand for this exciting new product," added Mr. Stackhouse.
As of today, AT&T Cable Services serves approximately 460,000 Basic cable customers in metro Denver, of whom 100,000 (nearly 22%) now enjoy digital services via AT&T Digital Cable. Thanks to an ambitious technical, customer care and marketing program, Denver is just the second service area ever where AT&T Digital Cable service has reached the 100,000 customer plateau.
To celebrate the 100,000th Digital Cable customer milestone, AT&T Cable Services presented the Russell family with a gift certificate for a full year of digital service and a brand new color television set.
The former TCI of Colorado began marketing Digital Cable in the first quarter of 1998. The service first became available in November 1997. The company continues an aggressive recruitment and training program to add AT&T Digital Cable installation technicians in order to satisfy consumer demand as awareness of the product continues.
By purchasing a range of convenient AT&T Digital Cable packages, customers can receive dozens of digital video and audio channels of entertainment programming, as well as AT&T Cable's Basic and Expanded Basic services*. Additional installation charges, monthly equipment fees, franchise fees, taxes and other miscellaneous fees will apply.
AT&T Digital Cable programming includes new special interest networks such as Discovery Kids, Discovery Science, The History Channel, The SciFi Channel, Independent Film Channel, Home & Garden TV, ESPNews, and multiple channels of premium movie services such as HBO 2 and 3, Showtime 2, Starz! 2, and Encore services including Love, Western and Mystery. In addition to more special interest and movie offerings, customers enjoy more convenient pay-per-view movie start times with the additional pay-per-view channels. AT&T Digital Cable customers also continue to receive local networks and independent stations.
In addition to more TV entertainment channels, AT&T Digital Cable features an interactive on-screen guide. Operated by a universal remote control, the on-screen guide lets viewers scan and interactively select programs and services. Customers can personalize what they want to watch at a time that is convenient for them, and develop a menu of favorite channels. Pay-per-view programs can also be ordered directly from the on-screen guide without having to call in advance.
Another key benefit of AT&T Digital Cable is the Parental Control feature, which gives parents the ability to manage the programs families watch. Accessed by a code determined by the customer, programming can be blocked by movie rating, specific title, or channel.
AT&T Digital Cable utilizes digital compression technology to "squeeze" more channels into AT&T's broadband cable. AT&T Digital Cable is transmitted through AT&T's existing cable lines directly into the customer's home, where the signal is converted by the set-top Digital Compression Terminal (DCT) installed in the home.
To install AT&T Digital Cable, Denver area consumers can call the company's customer satisfaction center at 303-930-2000.
