QLogic Provides Fibre Channel Host Adapters for Use in Intel-Sponsored Whitepapers

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 1999--

QLA2100 Part of Suggested Configuration With Intel-based 2, 4 and

8-Way Platforms in Two Whitepapers Published Jointly by Intel

and Other Industry Leaders

QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), an industry leading designer of advanced, high-performance I/O controllers for direct connect and storage network interfaces, announced today that its QLA2100 product has been identified as part of complete recommended system solutions in two whitepapers: "Scalable Enterprise Storage Solutions", published jointly by Intel, CLARiiON, and LSI Logic; and "Multi-Tier Internet-Based Enterprise Applications", published jointly by Intel, CLARiiON, Dell, GigaNet, IBM, Microsoft and QLogic. The Fibre Channel adapters were featured for use in 2, 4, and 8-way Intel Pentium(R) III Xeon(TM) platforms utilizing both the Intel 450NX and new Profusion(R) chipsets. These documents can be found at qlc.com, under the "Industry" link.

The advent of Fibre Channel storage, added to the high performing, scalable and highly available Intel-based servers, enables high-end enterprise level solutions with management functions that facilitate remote administration, on a very flexible and highly scalable platform. The whitepapers outline configurations for both scalable enterprise solutions and high-availability Internet clustering applications.

QLogic's QLA2100 Fibre Channel host bus adapter is featured in both white papers in arbitrated-loop and switched fabric configurations ranging from single-server JBOD and RAID solutions to complex 16-server, 64-processor cluster implementations for multi-tier internet applications. The QLA2100 is featured in configurations with CLARiiON and LSI MetaStor storage subsystems, Ancor and Giganet switches, and enterprise management software from HP Openview, IBM Tivoli and CA Unicenter.

"Platforms based on the Intel Pentium(R) III Xeon(TM) processor, including our new 8-way Profusion(R) chipset, provide customers with great performance, availability and scalability, and are ideally suited for use in Fibre Channel SANs," said Bill Raleigh, director of marketing for Intel's Enterprise Server Group. "These recently published whitepapers demonstrate the strengths of Fibre Channel solutions such as QLogic in the enterprise storage network."

"The power of systems based on Intel Pentium III Xeon processors enhance the flexibility and strength of today's Fibre Channel-based SAN," stated Larry Fortmuller, vice president and general manager for QLogic's Computer Systems Group. "We are pleased that QLogic was selected as part of this specific configuration for enterprise applications."

The QLogic QLA2100

The heart of the QLA2100 is the award-winning ISP2100 Fibre Channel controller. The ISP2100 has a dedicated on-board RISC processor, which results in impressive performance and superior efficiency in real world applications. In addition, QLogic's unique architecture, which integrates both frame buffers and a 1 Gbit transceiver, continues to be the only single-chip solution available in the Fibre Channel market.

QLogic offers the widest array of Fibre Channel interface products in the marketplace today. QLogic Fibre Channel controllers can be found in products from industry leading manufacturers of hard disk drives, tape drives, RAID controllers, tape libraries to UNIX and NT systems and workstations.
