Burt re:Can't come up with a way to feel good about these events.

I can. It gives me the opportunity to add, once again, to my long-term Intel position at cheaper prices!

Burt Masnick. Re: "Am I over-reacting?" Perhaps. The earthquake is, at most, a one quarter problem, if that. Ask yourself, "If the folks who were going to buy a computer in 4Q have to wait 'til the 1Q will that be the end of the world.?" Even with Y2K I don't think so. Next, I am not technology expert but the Camino problem and Xeon 8 way problem are not "inflection points", just SNAFUS. Embarassing but not real threats to the enterprise.

You make a good point about fixing the systems. "...while Intel is superb in manufacturing standards, discipline and procedure, the development process is more loosely controlled. Both device/board problems should have been surfaced in development test phases." I think Intel will do that.

Putting these problems aside for a moment, did you see the WSJ article on "The best corporate reputations in America"? Well our company ranked #4 on "reputation quotient" which is how the public perceives the companies on 20 attributes. Intel ranked #2 on products and services, #5 on workplace environment, #2 on vision and leadership, and #5 on financial performance.

I think this reputation is well deserved and as an owner of the company it reminds me that Intel has demonstrated over and over again that they have the resources and conviction to solve their problems.

I do not believe they will disappoint this time. Hope this helps.
