ABIT Earthquake Announcement
Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. September 22, 1999-We at ABIT Computer Corporation would like to offer our condolences and express our sadness at the devastation that was brought upon Taiwan after Tuesday's at 1:47 a.m. earthquake.
We would also like to take this opportunity to reassure our customers all over the world that ABIT did not sustain any damage to our headquarters in Xi Zhi nor our factory in Tao Yuan. There will be some delays in shipments from the island as there has been a severe power shortage island wide. Currently Tai Power is having to ration power giving local residential areas first priority, leaving our factory and headquarters presently without electricity. We should be up and running again within 1 to 2 days.
Additionally there will be the Moon Festival holiday this Friday as well as another national holiday on the following Tuesday, creating a period of reduced activity for ABIT until next week. We want to assure our customers and personnel worldwide that normal production and operations will be resumed by next week.
ABIT is deeply saddened by the tragedy that has befallen the victims of the quake and would like to again express our best wishes and condolences for those affected. We would also like to thank our friends and customers around the world for their support and want all of our associates to know that we will be trying to do our best to keep up our production, service and support.
Thank You,
R.T. Wang
General Manager

A letter to AOpen Partners after the earthquake

Dear AOpen Partners,

You might have heard about the news of the devastating earthquake which happened this Tuesday, September 21th. All the people on this island are deeply affected.

On behalf of all AOpen employees as well as Taiwanese people, we wish to express our profound appreciation for your warmth and kind regards.

As far as AOpen itself is concerned, all AOpen employees (no matter local residents or sent overseas) and their families are safe and sound.

On the other hand, no production facilities have been damaged. Although electricity supply may not recover to a stable state until one or two weeks later, we have taken crisis-management measures and flexible procedures to ensure stable quality and supply of products while both incoming materials / components and production schedules are well planned and under control.

If you are asking what you can do, please, please pray with us, for the victims and casualties in this disaster.

Bernie Tsai
President, AOpen
