(NN) said France Telecom (FTE) has selected its MainStreetXpress multiservice, multi-access asynchronous transfer mode platform to build France's broadband multiservice ATM network. The value of the contract wasn't disclosed. In a news relesae, the company said "many hundreds" of the MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices switches will be deployed in the initial three years of the contract. Starting in October, Newbridge said France Telecom will begin to offer an extensive range of ATM-embeded services. France Telecom is a telecommunications service provider. (NN) said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Toshiba Corp. (J.TOS) for the distribution of Newbridge local multipoint distribution service (LMDS) network equipment in Japan. In a press release, the company said the contract is valued at $350 million over the next five years. It said the agreement also includes cooperation in the areas of joint product development and manufacturing. In a separate press release, the company said it has been selected by Movicom, a BellSouth affiliated company in Argentina, to provide the multiservice broadband platform to build Movicom's first national broadband network. It said Movicom's customers include financial institutions, government agencies, utility companies and other large corporations. The value of the Movicome contract wasn't disclosed. (NN) to provide it with a so-called broadband multiservice platform to upgrade its infrastructure, the Canadian company said Thursday. Financial terms of the transaction weren't provided. Newbridge said in a press release that the deal was signed through its Argentine affiliate, Transistemas. Movicom is the leading cellular provider in metropolitan Buenos Aires and is gearing up for the partial opening of the Argentine telecommunications sector in November, when the company will begin offering long-distance telephony and other services. To allow for the expansion, Movicom its building a broadband network that supports a wide range of next-generation voice and data services - such as high-speed Internet access, and frame relay and asynchronous transfer mode. Newbridge will supply Movicom with its MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch, an ATM switch, and its MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager, which provides end-to-end network and service management. Movicom's executive director of technology, Horacio Goldenberg, said in the release that as the company expands, it will look to upgrade its infrastructure to maintain existing customers while offering the most advanced voice and data services. "Only Newbridge, in conjunction with Transistemas, is able to meet our needs, offering a leading-edge, highly scalable networking solution that includes end-to-end network and service management."
