Talisman: Stay overweight in key resources - Financial Post, September 25

Although they already have had a big run-up this year, it is still appropriate to overweight key Canadian resource sectors, says Nereo Piticco, partner in Toronto-based PCJ Investment Counsel.

Canadian energy stocks have done well this year, he notes, but the stocks are not yet fully reflecting an oil price of $23 to $24 (US). He is looking to "very healthy" cash flow and earnings numbers from the oilpatch for the second half of this year.

His favourite stock here is:

- Talisman Energy Inc. (TLM/TSE), which had a recent close of $45.90 and trades in a 52-week range of $49.15 to $22.10. This Calgary-based senior energy producer's management "had demonstrated considerable ability and made some astute investments." The company is, for example, reaping the benefits from its interests in the North Sea.

Ed, Dr. Jim Buckee of Talisman is either incredibly ignorant or is going to eat some crow on those remarks- nothing like sticking your head in the sand. The evidence in the hands of the US African Affairs Committee against the NIF Junta is substantial and just horrendous- and it's growing.

Right now the Committee is studying NIF violations of the economic embargo along with the mass murder, slave trade, chemicals weapons use, and assisting Iraq to build weapons of mass destruction, and Red Chinese funding and support of these activities, if any.

The CBS broadcast tonight helped in raising awareness of the issue, but politically the die is cast with the appointment of the Special US Envoy to Sudan, Mr. Johnston.

Talisman is just "whistling past the graveyard" pretending that nothing is going on in the southern Sudan. The pressure for action is rising on the political front- the question is- will Talisman be part of the solution or just part of the problem?
