It looks like MSFT is on schedule to announce WIN2000 in November. They just released a beta2 launch on Thursday.

Just to clarify - the build that just went into wide release was Release Candidate 2, not Beta 2.

Beta signifies that there's still significant work left to be done before the ship criteria are met. Beta builds are not necessarily feature-complete. Release Candidate means it's feature-complete, and almost ready to go. Release Candidates will continue to be shipped to key customers (such as members of the JDP) until they give the "thumbs up".
