Let us remember that e.Digital's MicroOS is the only software solution that can handle multiple codecs. The easiest and cheapest way to upgrade the Phase 1 players to Phase 2 players will be with a software upgrade. Thus e.Digital may get a majority of contracts for the handheld devices.

Imagine owning a player that handles multiple codecs with a hardware solution and then having to send your device back to somewhere to get it upgraded when you want to be able to play the new music that will be in Phase 2.

There are many news items that could hit at any time now.

PR firm, Intel devices, Lanier reorder and the contracts of the music players.

It's going to be a nice fall I think.

Did everyone read that article from last week that mentioned RCA and Sharp were going to release players using the TI DSP in them? That's a pretty good clue for starters.
