Art and Thread,

Art, you said...

I sent an e-mail inquiry for info on extent of loss, disruption, delay, and impact on current and future quarterly earnings.

Tremors in Taiwan continue with a 6.8 (Richter) aftershock yesterday.
IMHO, a response from the company is mandatory at this point...

...damage update, impact on supply chain, implications for near-term earnings, and contingency plans.

I wonder what management has constructed as a back-up plan if there are further power disruptions in that region. Reports indicate that aid efforts from relief organizations are being filtered through Chinese authorities which have been accused of intentionally delaying donations and exercising control in an attempt to demonstrate their dominance over the region. This cannot be tolerated.

I think options could include...

1) buying wafer on the open market from new partners such as Toshiba who has an interest in shaping a more collegial relationship with SanDisk.

2) dipping into cash reserves to fund ongoing fab investments if the secondary is post-poned or entirely cancelled.

3) putting extreme pressure on Lexar to settle the pending suit while bartering for their wafer supply agreements in the short term in lieu of a total cash settlement.

4) constructing provisional foundry agreements in other geographic regions such as South Korea.

But what the hell do I know.
