He became my idol many years after that first professional fight. At first, I found Clay to be egotistical to a dangerous degree: Even in the pre "FLY LIKE A BUTTTERFLY; STING LIKE A BEE" days, young Cassius could turn off the public with his self aggrandizing. Remember also when he refused to go to Viet Nam (indeed refused to be drafted at all) because of his Islamic beliefs, he became more controversial..But then I admired his ability to stick up for his conscience. In the midst of all this, I was always mesmerized by his BOXING style - lightning thrusts, light deflections, dancing feet, a stinging hook and a crashing full blow. That is Muhammed Ali! Todsay he signifies to me something beautiful - yet he reminds me of the Latin admonition: SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI. manny
