Fiber optics (glass) will be the medium of choice for most (all?) transcontinental and transnational backbones- the capacity and reliability of fiber is not matched by wireless (the light speed limit of GEOS is an issue, as is the asymmetric nature of transmission). Wireless should be seen as a complement to fiber, augmenting and improving connection speeds and providing ubiquitous access. There are many technologies that will work together, fiber is the cornerstone and GBLX just so happens to be the planetary provider.
