JC: Is Torvalds pompous?

Well, maybe so, but that hasn't kept Gates' buddy Paul Allen from greasing
the skids a little. Since Herr Professor K. has chosen his adjective, let me
chose mine, with adverbs for emphasis:

Gates: excessively acquisitive
Balmer: decidedly bombastic

Billy and Steve together: arrogant and ruthless

I guess Stevie thinks he's been appointed Chairman of the
Federal Reserve with his recent remarks on the "absurd" valuations of tech stocks.
The trouble is: the managements of Seagate, 3Com, American Power Conversion
and many others don't necessarily agree with him. And those that do wish he hadn't
said it, and may act accordingly. Andy Grove, in particular,
didn't need this on top of all the problems with the new Intel chipset.

They are very pro-business usually. This article has to be one of the most one-sided I've ever seen.
I do however agree he has a point about "free-software".
IMO in the mid to long term this trend will change and there will be charges, and hence companies will profit. Never in history has "something for nothing" been offered by business and lasted, don't think this will change all of a sudden unless Aliens take over .......

Now you know why this Kedrosky guy is up in arms. By the way, don't forget, there endowment funds are heavily invested in MSFT.

You have to know the real story behind the story to know what the motivations are.
