You are right, the chip stocks may come roaring back, I've see it happen, that after a couple weeks in the dumps an industry group comes back strong again. But, often a story like the PC makers cancelled orders, is only the beginning of a series of news that effect the industry. Just like good news coming in waves or "clumps", bad news seems to do the same. This accounts for the longer term industry trends. So caution is warranted as far as the chip industry is concerned. We'll keep an eye on them, there are a few chip companies I really like, and their link to other strong industry groups may help, i.e. the chips made for cell phones.

chip stocks...made small error in previous post on this topic.
According to what I see in tomorrow's IBD, the cancellation of 2 million chip orders by PC makers has occurred in the PAST 2 weeks, not the first 2 weeks of September. Actually, this news was out on Friday, too.
