MSFT is smarter than any other software company. Apple built the first desktop machines in the early 80's and could have been in MSFT's enviable position with their software dominating the market, but they choose the wrong path, Bill Gates, whether by accident or on purpose, chose the right path and is reaping the rewards of his decision. He has stated he believes the Internet is the future of computing and plans to be right in the thick of it. I agree, what use is the PC to the average buyer without a phone line connected to it? I could certainly keep my check book the old fashion way if that's all I used my PC for.
